Meet the Iconographer

Sarah Elizabeth Livick-Moses lives in Erie, PA with her husband, John Thomas, and their lovely pup, Mr. Tumnus. She is an Eastern Orthodox Christian trained to use egg tempera and gold leaf gilding in the traditional practice of Byzantine iconography. Sarah holds a PhD in Systematic Theology and loves to engage her readings and research with her creative experience as a painter and iconographer. Sarah received a blessing of her hands to serve as an iconographer in 2022 by Bishop John of Worcester and New England.

A Family Legacy

Sarah’s journey into iconography began in middle school under the guidance of her grandmother, Elizabeth Randell, an accomplished iconographer who studied with Christina Pokorovna at the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts. Summers spent in her grandmother’s mountain home in North Carolina—tending goats and chickens, working in the garden, and painting in the studio—formed Sarah’s early artistic and spiritual imagination. She has studied with her grandmother since her teenage years and continues to honor that formative lineage in her own work.
